Staff Report To:Mayor Fischer and Members of the City Council From:Laura Linehan, Assistant City Administrator Steve Anderson, Parks and Recreation Director Date: December 17, 2025 Re:2026 Parks and Recreation Commission Appointments 2026 Parks and Recreation Commission Chair Appointment Action To Be Considered: Motion to approve, table, or deny the following: Appoint Elizabeth (Lizzie) Gelderman and Kate Williams for a 3-year term from 2026- 2028 Appoint a Parks and Recreation Commission Chair in 2026 Background: Commissioner Term Background Kate Williams's term of office will expire on December 31, 2025. Additionally, Parks and Recreation Chair Commissioner Ron Horwath has served three full three-year terms. Currently, there are two three-year terms to fill. The city received a letter from Kate Williams requesting reappointment, along with three new applications. Both new and returning applicants were interviewed by a Parks and Recreation Commission interview committee consisting of Mayor Tom Fischer, Council Member Angie Malone, and Chair Horwath. Parks and Recreation Director Steve Anderson and Assistant City Administrator Laura Linehan served as staff support. Historically, council members rotate their involvement on the commissioner interview committee. The interview committee was very impressed with all the candidates and ultimately recommended Elizabeth (Lizzie) Gelderman for appointment and Kate Williams for reappointment. About Kate Williams Kate Williams has served her first term as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner. Kate is in the parks daily and volunteers for city events and programs. During her first term, Kate served on the Wayfinding Subcommittee and the Technical Advisory Committee for the Community Building.
