Staff Report <br />To:Mayor Fischer and Members of the City Council <br />From:Laura Linehan, Assistant City Administrator <br />Steve Anderson, Parks and Recreation Director <br />Date: December 17, 2025 <br />Re:2026 Parks and Recreation Commission Appointments <br />2026 Parks and Recreation Commission Chair Appointment <br />Action To Be Considered: <br />Motion to approve, table, or deny the following: <br />Appoint Elizabeth (Lizzie) Gelderman and Kate Williams for a 3-year term from 2026- <br />2028 <br />Appoint a Parks and Recreation Commission Chair in 2026 <br />Background: <br />Commissioner Term Background <br />Kate Williams's term of office will expire on December 31, 2025. Additionally, Parks and <br />Recreation Chair Commissioner Ron Horwath has served three full three-year terms. Currently, <br />there are two three-year terms to fill. <br />The city received a letter from Kate Williams requesting reappointment, along with three new <br />applications. <br />Both new and returning applicants were interviewed by a Parks and Recreation Commission <br />interview committee consisting of Mayor Tom Fischer, Council Member Angie Malone, and <br />Chair Horwath. Parks and Recreation Director Steve Anderson and Assistant City Administrator <br />Laura Linehan served as staff support. Historically, council members rotate their involvement on <br />the commissioner interview committee. <br />The interview committee was very impressed with all the candidates and ultimately <br />recommended Elizabeth (Lizzie) Gelderman for appointment and Kate Williams for <br />reappointment. <br />About Kate Williams <br />Kate Williams has served her first term as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner. Kate is in the <br />parks daily and volunteers for city events and programs. During her first term, Kate served on the <br />Wayfinding Subcommittee and the Technical Advisory Committee for the Community Building. <br />About Lizzie Gelderman <br />Lizzie Gelderman has been a resident of Little Canada for over two and a half years.
