In her review, City Attorney Amanda Johnson outlined that the City Council could consider adding several other items, including: • Remedies or consequences for what happens if a council member does not uphold this code of conduct • Line around public resources (staff time, city equipment, etc.) shouldn’t be used for private/personal business by council members • Notice of attendance – if a council member has reason to believe that there will be a large/controversial attendance at an upcoming council meeting, they have the obligation to inform the city administrator as soon as they become aware • Discouraging use of cell phones during meetings other than for urgent matters • Formalizing the current practice of not responding in the moment to public comment/open forum Therefore, in addition to changes for remote meeting attendance policies, Attorney Johnson and staff have provided draft language to include the items listed above for council discussion and consideration at the workshop.
