Fahey
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Matt Anderson
Rick Montour
13111 Blesener
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. llanson
Attached is correspondence we have received from the Ramsey /Washington Metro Watershed
District relating to approvals needed to raise the lake level by one foot. As you may know,
the outlet on Savage Lake East was reconstructed a few years ago due to its deteriorated
condition. It was reconstructed to achieve the same lake level as the original structure.
However, over the years, obstructions had dammed the outlet and caused the lake levels to be
higher than recorded information. When the reconstruction of the outlet was completed, lake
levels declined and citizens began expressing their concerns about the lower lake level.
This past fall, the Watershed with the assistance of representatives from the Department of
Natural Resources, held a neighborhood meeting to discuss this issue. The overwhelming
consensus was that the lake elevations needed to be increased to restore the lakes to more
usable conditions.
The attached letter outlines the steps the Watershed is taking in an attempt to remedy this
situation. As a property owner abutting the lake (Savage Lake West due to road right -of-
way), we need to complete the Letter of Agreement. To assist in this project, staff
recommends we authorize the Mayor and Administrator to execute said letter on behalf of the
City of Little Canada.
1
