Memo To: Joel Hanson
From: Shawn Hipp
(651) 483-4937
Re: Fill Permit for 2885 Centerville Road
Date: March 1, 2005
I would like get a fill permit approved in case I need it. We are planning an addition this
spring, and I would like to use some of the excavated dirt to make a couple of berms on
our property along Centerville Road. I may bring in some black dirt as well. I talked
through the process with Greg Schroeder last fall, and he advised me to apply for a
permit "just to be safe" and to wait until the March meeting to do so.
Purpose: Aesthetics + Noise and Parking Barrier. The noise from Centerville Road and
Quality Asphalt are the main deterrents to this lot (much more than the freeway!). People
often use our lot as overflow parking from Pioneer Park. (Side note: We need a
better /bigger sign indicating parking on the east side of the park!). The berms will not
not to block us off from the road totally, so it shouldn't add a security risk. We will have
3 -4 open areas to walk through to the park area, with a 15'opening to Centerville near
the mailbox.
Attached is a copy of our lot lines and my rough plan. I plan a maximum height of 5 %z
feet on the north berm... similar to the one just north of Pioneer Park on Centerville Road
at the townhouse development on Allen. My berms will consist of small rolling hills
accentuated with rocks, logs and perennials, groundcover, bushes and a few trees. The
gas and utility lines are marked, and I will stay away from those areas or keep them flatly
landscaped. This area is flat so there shouldn't be a drainage problem. I certainly will be
disappointed if I don't win your landscaping award next spring.
Let me know if you need more information. I am available to come to the City Council
Meeting on March 9th if needed. We are hoping to break ground in April.
2
