MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
January 6, 2005
SIGNS
21f eig8S
Pne
ds at a time. However, we may be able
are scheduled to be completed this
Sanders stated that the firefighters have a few changes they would like to see made to signage
planned for the firefighters trail. He reviewed the names the firefighters have been discussing
for the trail, including, but not limited to, "Firefighters Memorial Trail," "Firefighters Historical
Trail," and "Firefighters Commemorative Trail." Boss stated that the word "memorial" sounds
tragic. She preferred the words "historical" or "commemorative." The other commissioners
agreed. Sackett Glaser preferred usage of the word "firefighters" rather than "fire department"
since firefighters sounded more human and less institutional.
Sanders stated that the firefighters would like to see the words "City of Little Canada" on the
sign be replaced with "Little Canada Fire Department." Sackett Glaser indicated that she was
fine with dropping the "City or', but preferred to leave it as "Little Canada" rather than "Little
Canada Fire Department." She said that both the City of Little Canada and the Little Canada
Fire Department funded completion of the trail so she felt that both should get the credit. Boss
commented that the sign should be cohesive with the other park signs throughout the city.
Sanders indicated that he will meet with the firefighters and pass on the commissioners'
comments to them.
Sanders stated that work is scheduled to begin on the Spooner Park sign.
Sanders stated that there are some places that warrant stop signs on trail extensions. Other areas
do not require stop signs due to the low volume of traffic. The two areas that do need the signs
include LaBore Road under the power lines and also Country Drive at South Owasso Boulevard.
The Director stated that the busier streets will dictate whether a stop sign is necessary. City
staff will follow this guideline when deciding where to install the signs.
Broten asked if there has been any more discussion on painting of crosswalks. The Director
stated that he could not recall any discussion, but he would ask the Street Department for their
input on this matter.
PROG The Director passed out a list of the proposed program fees for 2005. Sackett G ;, asked why
FEES t i such a large increase proposed for the basketball league T or stated that the
gym rental le " "° °en increased by the school district.
Steinert asked if the shelter rentals o accommodate two rentals each day. The
Director stated that although th ers have been n a consistent basis, he feit that the
current usage did not this change. He will continue to . • this situation for possible
implementatio tie future.
it Glaser asked why the upper shelter lees at Spooner Park were different for weekdays
•,ersus weekends. She noted that fees for the lower shelter were the same on all clays of the
?age -
0-
