LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ci.litde-canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
JIM MORELAN, Director
(651) 766 -4045
DON BOWMAN, Program Coordinator
(651) 766 -4041
DEREK ANDERSON, Program Coordinator
(651) 766 -4041
BRAD VOLK, Maintenance Supervisor
(651) 766 -4056
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of City Council
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
DATE: May 6, 2005
RE: On- Street Trails /Posting of No Parking
As directed by the Council, the Parks & Recreation Commission discussed the City
Administrator's recommendation relative to on- street parking regulations at their May 5i1'
meeting. In reviewing this matter, the Commission's position was to retain the parking
restrictions as currently posted. Citing concern for bicycle and pedestrian safety, the
Commission felt unanimously that the present signage would best protect those users in
the absence of an off - street trail in those locations.
The Commission also took the position that the trail designations of these streets shown
on the City's trail system context plan map should be deleted if the Council chooses to
allow on- street parking in the areas outlined to avoid any contradictive information to the
public.
Overall, I think the Commission sympathized with the requests and needs of the
neighbors, but felt their recommendation should be based on the needs and safety of the
non - motorized, recreational user. More detail of the Commission's discussion will
appear in their meeting minutes; however, the minutes are unavailable at this time.
