IVIAYOR
Bill Biesener
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Rick Montour
Barbara Allan
John Keis
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048 Joel R. Hanson
www.ci.littleteanada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Biesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: July 8, 2005
RE: Public Works Supervisor Interim Salary Adjustment
Last December, the Council authorized a temporary salary adjustment for Joe Steele, our Public
Works Supervisor, for his increased responsibilities during the vacancy in the Public Works
Superintendent position. This adjustment was an additional $2.40 per hour ($5,000 annualized). As
you know, we did not fill the position until mid - April. Mr. Steele did a good job during this interim
period.
By hiring Bill Dircks from our existing staff, we created another opening in the department that has
since been filled by Mike Pesek. The training time associated with a new employee creates some
additional burden on our Public Works staff. Furthermore, with Mr. Dircks becoming familiar with
his new position, Mr. Steele has retained some additional responsibility.
As a result of all of these factors, I am recommending we extend Mr. Steele's temporary salary
adjustment of an additional $2.40 per hour through August 30th to recognize the added responsibility
he has willing accepted.
