MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 13, 2008
HOLIDAY McGraw noted that the City of Burnsville sells advertising space on its
DECORATIONS holiday decorations and banners to both local businesses and individuals
in the community. McGraw suggested that Little Canada consider such a
program for the redevelopment area along Little Canada Road.
The City Administrator pointed out that the City does have some banners
along Little Canada Road. If the Council is in support of additional
holiday decorations, staff could research what it would take to install the
appropriate brackets and possibly electricity to either banners andJor
holiday decorations.
The Council agreed that staff should research this and report back to the
Council.
MAPLEWOOD The City Administrator discussed the potential for extension of
SANITARY Maplewood's sanitary sewer system beyond Beam Avenue to serve
SEWER Richie Place, the Himmelbach, Battista, Sculley, and Johnson
EXTENSION properties. He noted that for the Richie Place development along,
BEYOND the extension of sanitary sewer could eliminate the need for three lift
BEAM stations that would cost approximately $100,000 each. The Administrator
AVENUE reported that easements would be needed from Himmelbach, Battista, and
Sculley, and he has begun some initial discussions with Mr. Himmelbach.
The Administrator presented the City Engineer's concept drawing for the
sewer line extension which he explained to the Council. He noted that the
drawing would have to be modified to better serve the Sculley property.
The Administrator suggested that if sanitary sewer is extended into the
area it might also be appropriate to obtain road right-of--way for the
development of this area. This may require eminent domain action on the
part of the City.
McGraw noted that the sanitary sewer would be run through the wetland
and asked the impact of that. The Administrator indicated that the sewer
would be directionally bored, with little to no impact on the wetland.
The Council instructed the City Administrator to proceed with easement
discussions with the impacted property owners. The Council also
indicated that if it is necessary to include the City Attorney in these
discussions, the Administrator should do so.
SMOKE The City Administrator reported that carbon monoxide and smoke detector
DETECTORS requirements changed during the last legislative session. He noted that
there has been difficulty in interpreting the new legislation, and the Fire
Marshal's office sent out a letter to rental property owners and managers,
6
