MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 13, 2008
misstating the new requirements. It was also noted that the City can
require the hard wiring of smoke detectors in all apartment units by
adopting an ordinance to that effect. However, in discussions with the
Fire Marshal and Fire Chief, it was felt that the battery operated smoke
detectors were adequate and the cost of hardwiring was unwarranted. A
corrected letter will be sent out tomorrow.
The Council suggested that this issue be reviewed as part of the Multi-
Family Housing Licensing program. It was suggested that additional
consideration could be given under this program to multi-family units that
hardwire the detectors.
The Administrator also noted that new legislation requires carbon
monoxide detectors for single-family homes. He anticipated that this
would be regulated at points of sale through purchase agreements. These
detectors must be installed within 10 feet of bedrooms.
UTILITY The City Administrator reported that the utility billing software
BILLING conversion has been completed and tested. Next quarters bills will be sent
out utilizing the new format.
HEALTH The City Clerk reported that quotes were received for the City's April 1st
INSURANCE health insurance renewal and reflect an almost 12% increase. Staff is
RENEWAL currently working on including an option for a high deductible health
insurance plan in addition to its traditional plan, so as to offer employees
two options at this time. It is felt that eventually the City's employee
health insurance will migrate to one choice, the high deductible plan.
More details will be presented to the Council as these options are fine-
tuned.
There being no further business, the workshop was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
--~
Wil iam Blese ,Mayor
Attest: /
Joe anson, City Administrator
7
