Keep weed whips and lawn <br />mowers away from the base of <br />the trees. <br />— Pioneer Press <br />LITTLE CANADA <br />Tobacco Hut loses <br />sales -tax permit <br />The Minnesota Department of <br />Revenue has revoked the <br />sales -tax permit of the Tobacco <br />Hut at 2616 Rice St. in Little <br />Canada. <br />According to officials, the store <br />owes $356,000 in sales taxes, <br />including penalties and interest, <br />for the period from January <br />2001 to August 2003. <br />Storeowners could not be <br />reached for comment. <br />The loss of the permit means <br />that the store cannot make any <br />taxable retail sales. <br />— Pratik Joshi <br />LAUDERDALE <br />Doherty named to <br />vacant council seat <br />The Lauderdale City Council has <br />appointed Karen Doherty to a <br />council seat left vacant when <br />Jeff McCloskey moved out of <br />the city. <br />Doherty, who had served on the <br />city's parks and community <br />committee, will fill out <br />McCloskey's term until the end <br />of this year. <br />The position will be up for <br />election this fall, as will one <br />other council seat and the <br />L/1llt4 l•Ctj <br />93- year -old man confuse( <br />BY MARA H.
