LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ctlittle-canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
JIM MORELAN, Director
(651) 766 -4045
DON BOWMAN, Program Coordinator
(651) 766 -4041
DEREK ANDERSON, Program Coordinator
(651) 766 -4041
BRAD VOLK, Maintenance Supervisor
(65I) 766 -4056
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
DATE: July 21, 2005
RE:
MN Recreation & Park Association Softball Tournament
Request for Temporary 3.2 Liquor License
August 19 -21, 2005
Pioneer Park has been host to the MN Recreation & Parks Association (MRPA) Men's
State Class D Slowpitch Softball Tournament since August of 2000. During those years,
the concession proceeds have gone to benefit the Little Canada Senior Girls' Softball
Team and the Little Canada Parks & Recreation Department. The profits from the
tournament this year will be split between the Little Canada Parks & Recreation
Department for the benefit of youth recreation programs, and the Roseville Area High
School baseball team whose players' parents will be operating the concession stand.
The former Little Canada Senior Girls softball team's assistant coach, Don Bowman, is
an officer of a non- profit corporation (Sportsmen Softball Club). This organization is
making application for the temporary on -sale liquor license in order to enable the
purchase of the necessary insurance through the MN Joint Underwriters Association.
Adults that are associated with the team will conduct all liquor sales.
Little Canada can be proud that MRPA has again requested to use Pioneer Park for this
year's Men's Class C and Men's Over 40 State Tournament. It is nice to be able to
showcase our park to others, and it is a benefit to our Parks & Recreation Department to
receive the free advertising that this event provides for our City -run adult leagues.
I would recommend approval of the attached temporary on -sale liquor application for this
event.
