MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 13, 2008
ELECTRONICS The City Administrator reviewed the Public Works Superintendent's report
RECYCLING dated February 1, 2008 outlining Retrofit Companies proposal to host an
DAY - Electronics Recycling Day at their facility on Yorkton Blvd. on Saturday,
APRIL 26TH Apri126, 2008. Retrofit Recycling would staff the event and would collect
household electronics from residents of Ramsey County at no cost to the
residents or to the City.
The Council expressed some concern with the logistics of the event given
the overwhelming turnout that was recently expressed at a similar event
held at the Mall of America. Council expressed its support for the event
provided that the proper traffic controls are in place and suggesting that the
event be more limited in scope. There was concern that people may dump
their electronics in the City if Retrofit Companies is unable to handle the
volume.
The City Administrator suggested that City staff will work out the details
with Retrofit Companies.
PURCHASE The Administrator reviewed the Public Works Superintendent's report
OF dated February 1, 2008 requesting authorization to purchase 120 additional
MANHOLE manhole covers at a cost of $10,863.00 from Ess Brothers. This will
COVERS complete the City's replacement of its manhole covers with the solid
version that prevents the inflow of storm water into the sewer system. The
new manhole covers are also much lighter and easier to handle for the
Public Works staff. This expenditure has been budgeted for in the Water
and Sewer Capital Replacement Budget.
The Administrator noted that the manhole replacement program is one of
the steps that the City has undertaken to improve Inflow and Infiltration
(I & I). These improvements reduce the amount of run-off going into the
sewer system, thus reducing the City's sewer treatment costs.
Ms. Allan introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTIONNO.2008-2-40 -APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF
120 MANHOLE COVERS FROM ESS BROTHERS AT A COST OF
$10,863.00 AS RECOMMENDED BY THE PUBLIC WORKS
SUPERINTENDENT
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Keis.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0).
