Hanson <br />www.ci.little- canada.mn.us <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council <br />FROM: Kathy Glanzer, City Clerk <br />DATE: October 20, 2005 <br />RE: Commission Attendance Requirements <br />Attached are the sections of City Code relative to the Parks & Recreation Commission <br />and the Planning Commission. As you will note, the Code has attendance requirements <br />for Commissioners which states that a Commissioner has failed to serve if he /she is <br />absent from three consecutive meetings or four meetings in a calendar year. Please also <br />note that a meeting is a regular meeting or a special meeting. <br />In reviewing the attendance record for the Planning Commission, there are Commission <br />members that are close to being deemed as failing to serve. The problem is the fact that <br />special meetings are considered in the attendance requirements. In 2005 there have been <br />two special Planning Commission meetings and there may be another special meeting in <br />November ( workshops with the Council do not count in determining attendance). <br />Please note that these special meetings are called in order to accommodate an applicant <br />that has missed deadlines. Planning Commissioners have been very accommodating in <br />coming in for special meetings, but given the last minute nature of scheduling these <br />special meetings, we have not been able to accommodate everyone's schedule. <br />Therefore, staff is recommending that attendance requirements for our Commissioners <br />only apply to regular Commission meetings. <br />
