Hanson
wvvw.ci.little- canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Biesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: August 18, 2005
RE: Community Survey Proposal
Decision Resources
Attached is a proposal from Decision Resources for conducting a residential survey.
Please note that the $10,200 cost includes 50 question units, and the estimate for a 100
question unit survey is $16,950. The City's 1988 survey consisted of 113 questions and
the 1995 survey had 157 questions (cost of $18,705 and $24,645 based on today's costs).
Please note the Project Timeline. Decision Resources is proposing one planning meeting
to establish topics for questions. They would then structure the questions and submit a
draft to the Council for approval. Staff feels that having one planning meeting may be
overly optimistic, and Decision Resources has agreed to add an initial topic
brainstorming session if the Council so desires. Staff will provide the Council with
copies of the survey question script from the previous two surveys under separate cover
to assist in the survey planning process.
If Council supports the need for a community survey at this time, staff would recommend
approval of Decision Resources' proposal, identification of planning participants, and
scheduling of the planning meeting.
