our residents to help keep our City clean. Therefore, staff recommends that we continue to hold
Cleanup Days every year. Staff also believes that we need to provide an incentive to our residents
to encourage greater participation. Staff would like to target those items being disposed of in our
City illegally; therefore, we recommend that we offer the following at our 2005 Cleanup Day:
• Provide free (no fee) disposal of trash (furniture, construction material, junk, etc.),
• Cut the tire disposal fees by 50% (they currently range from $4 to $20 depending on
the tire size and if it is on a rim or not),
• Charge the going recycling rate for electronics (these fees will increase in 2005),
• Provide free recycle of clothing.
However, to offer the above incentive, we will need an estimated $2,500 in the 2005 budget for
Cleanup Day to cover fees we will not receive.
Council Action
1) Confirm continuation of collecting and recycling of electronic materials and clothing
at Cleanup Day.
2) Confirm that we continue to hold Cleanup Day every year.
3) Approve staffs proposed incentive option for the 2005 Cleanup Day with the inclusion
of $2,500 in the 2005 budget to cover lost fees.
H: \GregS \Cleanup Day \Summary Memo.cloc
2
