Introduction
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT) Unweave the Weave Project
includes the replacement of the Edgerton Street Bridge over I -694. As part of this bridge
replacement, the bridge will be raised approximately 4 %2 feet, which will require the
approaches to the bridge along Edgerton Street and County Road D to also be raised.
Ramsey County Public Works Department who owns and maintains these roads has
determined that the approaches to the new bridge should be constructed as an urban street
section, (paved road with concrete curb and gutter) as part of this MNDOT project. This will
allow the County to start any future reconstruction of these two roads at points away from the
intersection, thus reducing future costs and the impact to traffic at this intersection. In
addition, to minimize, future costs to the City of Little Canada and its residents, the City of
Little Canada staff has determined that it would be the most economical time to also extend
and /or improve any of our utilities (water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer) within the
approach construction zone.
Scope
Street
Both Edgerton Street and County Road D are County Roads and are currently built to rural
standards with roadside ditches. Ramsey County Public Works has indicated they are not
reconstructing County Roads to rural standards if they are in urban areas. Based on this,
Ramsey County Public Works indicated that in the future, both Edgerton Street and County
Road D will be reconstructed to urban standards. Therefore, any improvements to these
roads at this time should also be done to urban standards. Thus, both Edgerton Street and
County Road D approaches to the new bridge will include a new bituminous surface,
concrete curb and gutter, and a buried stone sewer system as shown on the attached
drawings.
Stoma Sewer
The storm sewer system design for the Edgerton Street Bridge replacement project includes
sufficient size to accomidate future storm water that may be directed to this area. This
includes the storm water that would need to be drained from the future reconstruction of both
Edgerton Street and County Road D outside the area of the bridge approach reconstruction
zones.
Sanitary Sewer
A City of Little Canada sanitary sewer system currently exists within all the Edgerton Street
and County Road D approach construction zones and does not need to be repaired nor
replaced.
Water Main
The City of Little Canada currently has water main along Edgerton Street and County Road
D east of Edgerton Street. No problems have been experienced with this system. There is no
City of Little Canada water main along County Road D west of Edgerton Street within the
County Road D approach construction zone. As a result the City of Little Canada is
proposing to extend the Cities water main along County Road D west of Edgerton Street as
shown on the attached drawing.
\GregS\ Water \Feasibility Study County Road D Water Main.doc
-3-
