Preliminary planning indicates that the custom- designed facility will comprise
approximately 15,000 square feet, in order to accommodate out -of- custody arraignment
proceedings, court administrative business, and other public functions conducted by the
Second Judicial District Court. With attendant parking for 100 to 125 vehicles, the total size
of a potential site is in the range of 1.5 to 2 acres.
The County Board is currently soliciting interest from the County's suburban communities to
locate this new facility within their municipality. Criteria to guide the selection of an
appropriate site include the following:
7-
Site must be easily acressihle from existing public transportation network;
Site must be properly zoned or able to receive a conditional use permit;
Site's adjacent land uses are compatible with a court facility;
Site must be cleared of any previous structures, including foundations;
Site soils must be adequate to support the proposed construction;
The host community will provide a survey of the site; and
The host community will provide the site at no cost to Ramsey County.
The site search phase of the new Suburban Court Facility Project calls for County staff to
report back to the County Board by mid -March on the availability and comparative quality of
sites offered by local communities. The overall project schedule calls for construction to
begin in August 2004.
Excellence a Re -.2 -I, # Diversity
VnwMo on re V'.rvcr wth a 0111121111111 0E lnf. r
