CITY OF LITTLE CANADA
SNOWPLOWING POLICY
Section 1. Introduction. The City of Little Canada (City)
believes the residents through proper control of ice and snow should
have access to all roadways in the County and State road systems. The
City believes that reasonable ice and snow control is necessary for the
routine travel and emergency services. The City shall provide such
control in a safe and cost - effective manner keeping in mind safety,
personnel, environmental and budget constraints. The City will use
City employees, equipment and /or private contractors to provide this
service to its residents.
Section 2. Commencement of Snow and Ice Control Operations. The
Public Works Superintendent will decide when to begin snow or ice
control operations. The criteria for the decision are:
(1) Snow accumulation of two inches or more;
(2) Drifting of snow that causes problems for travel and
closing of streets;
(3) Icy conditions which affects travel; and
(4) Time of snowfall in relation to use of streets;
Snow and ice control operations are expensive and involve the use of
trained personnel and equipment. Consequently, snowplowing operations
will be conducted for snowfalls greater than two (2) inches. When
snowfall and icy conditions are less than two (2) inches, chemical
applications will be used.
