MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
January 15, 2004
Sanders stated that he will meet with City staff about combining this project with bids for other
City projects this spring. He also commented that there are two other trail connections that are
scheduled to be made this year...a connection under the powerlines from LaBore Road east to
Maplewood and a connection on the Water Works right -of -way north of South Owasso
Boulevard up to Country Drive and over to Rice Street. The Director commented that a
neighborhood meeting should be scheduled on the Maplewood connection to answer residents'
questions. Broten commented that pedestrian stop signs should be added at LaBore Road for
safety reasons. Sanders commented that issues with the railroad need to be resolved on the
Water Works trail connection.
LITTERBAGS The Director stated that one or two litterbag dispensers /containers to be used by people walking
dogs will be placed in selected parks this spring on a trial basis.
11 OALS Sackett Glaser and Gray attended the goal setting session on Monday, January 12, 2004 with the
City Council and staff members. They were pleased to see that "Completing the Trail System"
was ranked #3 out of 42 goals. They also commented that it's nice to have a Mayor and Council
that supports our park system.
The Director stated that the Council was looking for input from the Commission on the
MBIEMR proposed Watershed building. Larson felt it was tough to make a recommendation without
seeing a site plan. The Commission commented that they would like to see some type of public
use of the building. They felt the concept could be workable, but they would like to see a site
plan The Director stated that he will get more detail for next month's meeting.
DIRECTOR'S The Director reported on the following items:
tEPORT
• The Director stated that he has not received any applications for the Commission vacancy
yet.
