GLA
Gervais Lake Association
675 East County Road B -2
Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
(651) 484-7571
March 11, 2003
Mr. Clifton Aichinger - Administrator
Ramsey- Washington Metro Watershed District
1902 East County Rd. B
Maplewood, MN 55109
Dear Mr. Aichinger:
We are writing to confirm the discussions at recent meetings and to make the positions of our
Association clear on several watershed issues. Please reply in writing so that we will be able
relate each issue and your response to our membership in the very near future.
1. Proposed 15" Pipe from West Vadnais Lake, Vadnais Lake Area Water Management
Organization, under the rebuilt I -694 and flowing into Lake Gervais.
a. The Gervais Lake Association is opposed to this project proposal. We are opposed to any
new waters flowing to the Lake Gervais basin, especially that from outside the RWMWD
watershed.
b. We understand that the ONLY need for this outlet from West Vadnais Lake is to protect
the Rice Street (Hwy 49) roadway from possible flooding and washing out at its low point near
the railroad bridge at the NW comer of this lake. Is this correct?
c. If the proposed pipe is to be installed we want confiunation that:
* .. the only waters flowing into West Vadnais Lake is the incidental water runoff from
the local area adjacent to the lake.
* .. there will be no waters flowing from Grass Lake to the West Vadnais Lake
via a possible existing pipe or any future new pipe. Also there will be no waters
flowing from East Vadnais Lake, or from Twin Lake, into West Vadnais Lake.
* .. the proposed 2000 ft pipe would terminate at a new 1.25 acre pond, 3 to 4 ft deep,
just west of the Levitz Furniture building. The outlet of this pond would
significantly slow those waters flowing into the ditches leading to Gervais.
Page 1
