MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
MAY 3, 2012
higher priority rating. Sanders did not feel that the fact that parks are
existing would result in parks enhancements receiving a higher priority
rating. Sanders noted the City's community surveys have always resulted
in high ratings for both parks and the City's trail systems.
It was the consensus of the Commission that once all the information is
available, the trail system priorities, playground equipment
replacement /enhancements, and the park enhancement projects will be
prioritized as one document. Once that work has been completed, the
Commission will ask for ajoint workshop with the City Council to
review.
TROUTBROOK The Director reported that he was at a meeting with MNDOT and learned
TRAIL that there is a focus group looking at the pedestrian /bike system over 694
from County Road E to Old Highway 8. This system would include the
extension of the Troutbrook Trail through Little Canada. The Director
indicated that since the City turned over the Troutbrook Trail project to
the County, the County has been working to get this trail improvement on
the Metropolitan Council's needs list.
Sanders reported that the County is also working on a trail connection
from Keller Lake under Highway 36 and along Spoon Lake to tie into
Arcade Street. This would be a nice trail connection for Little Canada.
ARBOR DAY The Director reminded the Commission that an Arbor Day Celebration
will be held Friday, May 4, 1:00 p.m. at Spooner Park.
YOUTH The Director reported that flyers announcing youth registration for
ACTIVITIES archery lessons, firearm safety class, and skateboard camp were
distributed to the schools today.
Fahey noted that the City's skateboard park receives a lot of use.
MARKET The Director announced that the May 9th Market Place Morning Talk
PLACE will be on Container Gardening.
MORNING
TALKS
ADJOURN
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
Respectfully subm'j
Kathy Gla 'er
City Cler
5
