Although I can't be at the meeting, I want to express
the concern of the Parks Commission that this seems to us to be
premature.
As you may recall, at the last Parks Commission meeting at which this
issue was discussed, the Commission tabled the issue, as we felt that
we needed to see the final plans for the building prior to making a
recommendation. Our concerns were that the size, style and lot usage
of the building fit in with the parks and trails elements that
surround it.
Particularly, we epressed concerns that too large of a building, or
one that places parking prominently near the street side or trail,
could detract from the aesthetics the Commission and Council have
worked for many years to create.
As of this date, the Parks Commission has not had a chance to see
these plans or make a recommendation. While we feel that the Water
District probably would make a good tenant of this site, we would
like for the process to move forward with making the plans available
to us so that we can give the council a formal recommendation, one
way or the other. Ideally, this process would occur prior to the City
entering into any type of purchase agreement for the site.
Thus, we respectfully submit that we think moving on a contract this
week would be premature.
Ginger Sackett Glaser
Parks & Recreation Commission Chair
1
1
