4. The detached garage not exceed 15 feet in height.
5. No commercial of home occupation activities be conducted on the property.
In this case, the applicant is proposing a gambrel -style roof, similar to traditional barn
architecture, and natural cedar siding, rather than white lap siding as is currently on the
house. The applicant states that neighbors prefer the natural wood color as being less
visible to the surrounding properties.
The City's rationale for requiring similar building design, materials, and color has been
to ensure that reasonably compatible buildings area constructed in order to protect
neighbors from undesirable views. if the neighbors believe that the proposed finish is
superior to that of the existing home, planning staff would recommend acceptance of
the alternative materials, essentially waiving the first three of the above "typical"
conditions.
Summary and Recommendation
Planning staff recommends approval of the CUP for a second garage, exceeding the
1,000 square foot threshold, with the following conditions:
1. The detached garage not exceed 15 feet in height.
2. No commercial of home occupation activities be conducted on the property.
Pc: Kathy Glanzer
Steve Westerhaus
Lee Eifering
Greg Schroeder
James and Lisa Daly, 3091 Arcade Street, Little Canada, MN 55109
