Fahey
COUNCIL,
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Matt Anderson
Rick Montour
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
The 2002 budget includes two line items for sewer cameras, a main line camera for $10,000 and
a service camera for $6,000.
The cities of Oakdale, Roseville, Vadnais Heights, and Little Canada were looking into the
possibility of a joint venture purchase of a main line sewer camera. The estimated $10,000 cost
for the City of Little Canada was based on our city size and potential use. Upon further
investigation, it has been determined that we could accomplish most of our sewer video needs by
purchasing a smaller service size camera and contracting any large camera needs we can not do
ourselves. Therefore, it is not in the best interest of the City of Little Canada to participate in
this joint venture and we have withdrawn.
As indicated above, we determined that we can accomplish most of our sewer needs with a
smaller service type camera. This industry has advance over the last few years and many options
are now available to increase the versatility of the cameras. They have attachments to mount
these cameras on our Vactor hoses, contain transmitters for locating where you are, and come in
compact recording and viewing packages to mention some. With only a 1.5" outside diameter
camera and a one- person carrying case package, this system will be easy to use in helping us
verify our sewer cleaning, as well as help us identify blockages and damage to our sanitary
system. Current contract main line video costs range from $150 to $250 per hour with a 4 hour
minimum charge. We have already contracted one main line video this year and are in the
process of contracting another. Both of these could have been accomplished with this proposed
system.
The system we are proposing includes:
200 feet of video cable, 9" high resolution monitor, AC /DC operation, 4" 6 "and 8" skids
for larger pipe viewing, built in video amplifier, VHS recording system, voice over
recording system, mic, picture inverter, 1 color camera head, 1 black & white camera
head (back up), on screen footage counter and text writing, inline transmitter.
H: \GregS \Sanitary Sewer \Sewer Camera.doc
