MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 24, 2002
There was no one from the general public present indicating a desire to
discuss the Poolside Addition.
Upon motion by Fahey, seconded by Anderson, the public hearing was
closed.
LaValle asked if Poolside's access to Jackson Street would be eliminated
as part of this project. Rob Anderson, Poolside, indicated that they plan to
continue using this access. LaValle reported that he has heard from
residents along Jackson Street of problems with Poolside blocking the
street at times preventing access to their homes.
Rob Anderson indicated that this has occurred on only one occasion, and
Poolside addressed the problem with its delivery vendors. A resident of
Jackson Street disagreed and indicated that the situation occurred again
just this morning with delivery trucks parking on Jackson Street blocking
access.
Anderson reported that they currently lease 5,000 square feet of
warehouse space nearby. Once the addition is constructed, they will no
longer lease this space thus eliminating the traffic back and forth between
the County Road C location and the lease space on the other side of
Jackson Street.
A resident indicated that in addition to access to Jackson Street being
blocked, semis have blocked access to mailboxes interfering with
residents' mad delivery_ It was also noted that truck traffic in and out of
Poolside onto Jackson Street is not turning properly and semis are driving
over adjacent properties.
Fahey pointed out that even though there are residential home on Jackson
Street, the property is zoned General Business (B -3). A resident noted that
the homes were zoned residential until 1964 when they were rezoned to
commercial. Poolside was constructed in approximately 1978 after the
homes were constructed. A resident presented the Council with a copy of
City Council meeting minutes from 1984 wherein the Council indicated
that Poolside would no longer be allowed to use Jackson Street. The
resident noted that Jackson Street is considered a 3 -ton road, however, it is
being used by semi- trucks delivering to Poolside.
At this point in the meeting, the consensus of the Council was to reopen
the Public Hearing. Upon motion by Anderson, seconded by Montour, the
Public Hearing was reopened.
8
