SP 6280 -304 (I -35E) EDGERTON MEETING NOTES
March 29, 2002 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM @ WE conference room 148
13y Jeff Gibbens
PRESENT:
Ray Cekalla - Mn /DOT Preliminary Bridge Engineer - 651- 747 -2172
Jeff Gibbens - Mn /DOT Metro TH 316 Project Manager - 651 -582 -1594
Rachel Guan - Mn /DOT Grad Engineer - 651- 634 -2119
Marc Goess - Mn /DOT Metro Division Area Engineer - 651 -582 -1301
Joel Hanson - Little Canada City Administrator - 651- 766 -4040
Dan Prather - Mn/DOT Preliminary Bridge - 651- 747 -2173
Dan Soler - Ramsey County Traffic Engineer - 651- 482 -5209
Rick Terway - Vadnais heights Director of Public Works - 651- 494 -6514
Gerry Urban - Vadnais eights City Administrator- 651 -494 -6511
NOTES:
During the past several months, the proposed widths for the Edgerton Street bridge and
the Edgerton Street approach road have been changing. This meeting was scheduled to
resolve what these widths should be. Not surprisingly, this discussion revealed a
difference between what we would like to build and what we can afford to build. In
consideration of the latter, we made the following decisions.
The Edgerton roadway will be 52 feet wide from face of curb to face of curb. Note
that this is a change from the previous minutes dated March 11, 2002. This will be
striped as one continuous left turn lane 12 feet wide, two through lanes 12 feet wide, and
two shoulders 8 feet wide. (Each shoulder will be 6 feet of bituminous and 2 feet of
concrete gutter B624.) The only exception to the Edgerton approach road width will be
at the south end of the bridge; there the west curb will flare out to widen the shoulder to
11 feet, which will serve as a southbound to westbound turn lane. County Road D will be
built 48 feet wide from curb to curb (6 +12 +12 +12 +6), as was described in previous
minutes. Mn/DOT's construction plan will provide an adequate berm (12 feet wide
minimum behind the north curb, between the curb and a possible noise wall) to
accommodate a future bituminous trail. This berm area will also be able to serve as a
utility corridor. Shoulders on county roads will be separated from the through lane by a
solid white line.
Dan confirmed that the county would be participating in costs for things like curb and
gutter and storm sewer.
Marc said that the Edgerton Street will handle increased traffic during construction, and
that Mn/DOT will pay for a bridge width to at least 48 feet. Ray said that he wanted the
roadway width on the bridge to be the same width as the width of the approach road. Jeff
mentioned that each 4 feet of bridge width should cost around $110,000.
ACTION: Marc will meet with Frank Paflco early next week to decide whether the
Edgerton Bridge should be 48 feet wide or 52 feet wide from the west barrier to the east
curb line, not including the raised 8 foot sidewalk on the east side of the bridge.
