Hanson
The City of Little Canada has a regular maintenance, cleaning, and inspection program in place
to provide the best possible sanitary sewer service for our residents. Each year we flush end
manholes in both the spring and fall; we clean the known troublesome sections of our sanitary
system; and we clean 1/3 of the entire system. Unfortunately, since we cannot control what
people put in our sanitary sewer system, we cannot absolutely prevent sanitary sewer back -ups
from occurring.
Mr. Skarda at 2833 Edgerton
Date
03/30/02
01/08/02
12/27/01
06/14/97
11/04/92
04/24/91
Street has experienced six known back -ups since 1991 as follows:
Cause
Grease in sewer line
Grease and stick in sewer line
Unknown
Sticks in sewer line
Diaper in sewer line
Diaper in sewer line.
After each backup is resolved, we clean the sanitary line in the area of the back up and check the
manholes upstream of the backup for problems. Mr. Skarda's sanitary sewer service empties
into a City line that is located in the center of LaBore Road. As a result of Mr. Skarda's backups
we inspected the manholes upstream of his service and found some older style manhole covers
with open pick holes and plugged these holes. In addition, we talked to Montreal Courts and
found that they have also been experiencing grease problems in their system. They told us they
would send out fliers to residents to remind them not to put grease in their drains. We further
videotaped the City's sanitary line from the first manhole upstream of Mr. Skarda's service down
to two manholes downstream and did not see any problems with the sewer line.
H: \GregS \Sanitary Sewer \Edgerton Street Sewer Corrections.doc
