The geologic origins assigned were based <br />CM the compositions of the materials encountered, the penetration resistances recorded in those <br />materials, and available knowledge of the depositional history of the arca, <br />23.2. Soil and Material Data <br />13 -2.a. Existing Pavement. Bituminous pavements encountered at Borings ST -1 though ST -4 was <br />about 3 to 4 inches thick. The bituminous appeared to be underlain with about 4 to 12 inches of <br />aggregate base. Boring ST -S was performed in the southern portion of the site where the surface <br />was covered by aggregate base. At this location, the aggregate base was about 12 inches thick. <br />1.1.2.b. Existing Fill. Below the existing pavement, the borings encountered existing MI extending <br />to depths ranging in depth from about 6 to 11 feet. The existing fill consisted of a mixture of silty <br />and clayey sand but also included poorly graded sand, lean clay and silt. The existing fill was <br />identified by its mixed soil composition and coloration, and the presence of organic materials buried <br />below it. The fill material ranged in color from brown to dark brown and black, and was generally <br />moist. <br />B.2.c. Organic Deposits. Below the existing fill, the, borings encountered organic deposits <br />consisting of Muck (PT), organic eta)? (UL) and organic silt (OL). Muck is tens used to describe <br />highly decomposed organic soils (peat). At the locations explored, the depths ranged from about 1 I <br />'to 23 feet below the surface. The organic deposits were black, dark gray to olive -gray and wet. <br />B.2.d. Lacustrine Soils. Below the organic materials, the borings encountered lacustrine (lake - <br />deposited) soils consisting of lean clay (CL), silt (ML) fine- grained silty sand (SM), and poorly <br />graded sand with silt (SP -SM). The lacustrine soils were gray, waterbearing, and were often <br />interbedded with seams and layers of sand, silt and clay. <br />
