A. Introduction
A.1. Situation
Mr. Sam Roberto is coordinating the development of a vacant lot on Rose Place, just east of
Savage Lane, in Little Canada. The development will likely be limited to a single - family
residence.
A.2. Project Goals
Our goals included characterizing subsurface conditions in that portion of the lot most likely to
be developed, and providing Mr. Roberto with an opinion regarding the suitability of the lot for
development, anti recommendations for building subgrade preparation and the design of
foundations and slabs.
A.3. Scope of Services
Our scope of services was outlined in an April 3, 2001, Cost Estimate to Mr. Roberto, who
provided written authorization to proceed on May 10, 2001. Our scope of services was
performed under the terms of our February 1, 1996, General Conditions, and was limited to the
tasks described below.
To obtain information for our evaluation, we drilled two penetration test borings at locations
selected by Mr. Roberto. The approximate locations of our borings are shown in Figure 1, in the
Appendix. Figure 1 is a partial tracing of an untitled, undated property boundary plan provided
by Mr. Roberto, superimposed with measurements taken by our drill crew upon drilling the
borings. Both our borings were terminated at a depth of 20 feet.
Penetration resistance tests were performed as each boring was advanced. The depths at which
the tests were performed, and the results of the tests are shown on the attached Log of Boring
sheets. Penetration resistances, measured in blows -per -foot (BPF), provide an empirical means
of estimating relative material density, consistency, strength and compaction.
