Mr. Sam Roberto
Project BBXX- 01 -119A
May 24, 2001
Page 2
B. Results
B.1. Log of Boring Sheets
Logs of our borings follow Figure 1 in the Appendix. The logs classify and describe the
materials encountered by the borings, and present the results of penetration resistance tests and
groundwater measurements. Geologic origins assigned to the strata shown on the logs were
determined from a review of material classifications, penetration resistance tests and geologic
publications pertinent to the site and general area.
B.2. Materials Summary
The borings encountered approximately 6 feet of existing fill below the surface. The existing fill
consisted of silty sand, which was dark brown or grayish brown, and was moist. The existing fill
was initially underlain with swamp- deposited peat, which was dark brown to black, was moist,
fibrous, and extended to a depth of approximately 10 feet.
The existing fill and peat were underlain with alluvial soils consisting of poorly graded sand with
silt, and with glacial soils consisting of sandy lean clay. The alluvial soils were gray and
waterbearing; the glacial soils were brown and gray, were wet, and contained trace amounts of
gravel.
B.3. Penetration Resistance Data
Penetration resistance values recorded in the existing fill ranged from 4 to 9 BPF, indicating that
it was variably, and locally rather poorly, compacted. Penetration resistances in the swamp -
deposited peat ranged from 5 to 10 BPF, indicating it was loose. Penetration resistances of 2 and
3 BPF were recorded in the alluvial soils, indicating they were very loose, and penetration
resistances of 7 to 11 were recorded in the glacial soils, indicating they were of medium to rather
stiff consistency.
