of Little Can
COIlflUIlllY PRIDE
1953 - 2003
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
wwwei.little- canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: November 6, 2003
RE: Request to 'Rename Allan Avenue to Inman Place
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Matt Anderson
Rick Montour
1 ill Blesener
ADAUNLS 7 RAT OR
Joel R. I- Ianson
Attached is a request I received relative to the above referenced subject. As you know, the plat
was approved with Allan Avenue as the designated street name. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Inman
asked about the possibility of renaming this section of road (Greenbrier to Leeward Way)
"Inman Place ". Staff initially indicated this could cause problems from a public safety
perspective given the direct alignment with Allan Avenue. A few weeks later, I received the
attached request.
I forwarded this request on to Undersheriff George Altendorfer of the Ramsey County Sheriff's
Department to comment on the public safety aspect of this request. (As you know, RCSD
dispatches police, fire, and ambulance for our City and therefore, was in the best position to offer
an objective opinion. My request and Undersheriff Altendorfer's answer is attached. I've also
attached a diagram of the current alignment.
This response was shared with Mr. Inman. He would still like to discuss this matter with the
City Council. Mr. Altendorfer will also be present to offer any additional insight he may have.
From a staff perspective, public safety is the primary concern on this issue. Changing the name
does not present any major difficulties in terms of address revisions or notice issues.
cc: George Altendorfer
Ed Inman
Dawn Kulousek
1
