Hanson Background: At the March 26, 2003 City Council Meeting, the relocation of some of the street lights from Little Canada Road to Market Place Drive area was discussed. Some of the options discussed were: • Removing all 16 streetlights form the south side of Little Canada Road between of Rice Street and Market Place Drive and the 8 from the bus hub and spread them out over the redevelopment area. • Remove every other streetlight on Little Canada Road between Rice Street and Market Place Drive and all of the streetlights by the bus hub and spread them out over the redevelopment area. • Remove only 12 streetlights from the south side of little Canada Road (leaving 4 closest to Rice Street) and the 8 from the bus hub and spread them out over the redevelopment area. The Little Canada City Council requested that staff look at the entire redevelopment area and work with the Sherman Associates to develop an overall streetlight plan for this area. Proposed Street Light Plan The attached streetlight plan was developed based on the proposed density and uses of the redevelopment area; illumination needs; similarity (theme) of streetlight locations with adjoining areas; and cost. The proposed plan would involve the relocation of a total of 24 streetlights, (8 from the temporary bus hub and 16 from the south side of Little Canada Road between Rice Street and Market Place Drive. The plan would be accomplished in four phases. Phase one would be the removal of the remaining streetlights on the south side of Little Canada Road from Rice Street to Market Place Drive. Phase two includes the relocation of 13 streetlights along Market Place Drive. Phase one and phase two would occur yet this year. Phase three includes the relocation of seven streetlights along Rice Street and would be based on the redevelopment progress in this area. Phase four would occur after Middle Street is reconstructed (2004) and include the relocation of the remaining four streetlights. FI:AGregS \StreetsV Lights \Street Light Plan.doc
