If the abandoned well is not sealed, you must <br />observe and comply with all applicable separation distances prescribed in Minnesota Rules, <br />Chapter 4725. <br />The minimum setback distances that will likely apply in this situation include, but are not limited <br />to, the following: <br />• 50 feet from an active water supply -well; <br />• 50 feet from a buried municipal sewer pipe; <br />• 20 feet from a buried, approved, and tested residential sewer pipe; <br />• 10 feet from natural gas pipes or electrical distribution wire (buried or above ground); and <br />• 3 feet from the furthest projection of a building, including roof overhangs and decks. <br />You may wish to explore the possibility of having a well contractor over -drill the 2 -inch well, <br />remove it, and then permanently seal the borehole left behind by the extracted well casing. If <br />this cannot be done, then you must apply for a variance and observe all applicable setback <br />distances.
