U.S.West then split the company into Media One and
U.S. West and the two companies are wholly -owned and independent
companies. Media One is the third largest cable company in the United
States.
The Deputy Clerk asked if any other cities have approved the franchise
renewal. Wilson replied that she believes St. Anthony and New Brighton
have approved the franchise renewal with no changes from what was
recommended by the cable commission.
The City Administrator indicated that his only concern with whether or
not the City's rights -of -way ordinance addresses the issues of concern, and
suggested that this be confirmed prior to the Council's action on adoption
of the franchise renewal. The Administrator pointed out that this is a 15-
year agreement.
Fahey suggested that action on the franchise renewal be tabled for two
weeks to allow the City Attorney the opportunity to compare the rights -of-
way ordinance with the franchise renewal to ensure that abandoned
facilities are removed.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 98 -6 -152 —TABLING ACTION ON THE CABLE
TV FRANCHISE RENEWAL UNTIL THE JULY 8, 1998 REGULAR
COUNCIL MEETING
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Pedersen.
Ayes (5) LaValle, Pedersen, Fahey, Morelan, Scalze.
Nays (0).
