MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />APRIL 26, 2000 <br />LITTLE <br />CANADA <br />ROAD <br />IMPROVEMENT <br />REDEVELOP- <br />MENT SITE <br />Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2000-4-110 - TABLING ACTION ON THE <br />GOOSE CONTROL CONTRACT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF <br />MINNESOTA AND REQUESTING THAT THE U OFM CONDUCT <br />AN INVENTORY OF GEESE IN THE CITY TO DETERMINE IF <br />CONTINUED PARTICIPATION IN THE GOOSE CONTROL <br />PROGRAM IS NECESSARY <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle. <br />Ayes (5) Scalze, LaValle, Fahey, Moreton, Pedersen. <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />Elvie Day presented the Council with information that she claimed <br />showed goose droppings were not a health hazard. The City <br />Administrator indicated that the droppings may or may not be a health <br />hazard and it was difficult to show a direct health detriment, but the <br />droppings are a nuisance and an inconvenience. <br />Bonnie Chester reported that she would be approaching St. Jude's Medical <br />and St. John's School about trying some of the lawn treatments that are <br />available which repel geese. Scalze commented that Chester had the right <br />to do this, but pointed out that her efforts are on her own behalf and not on <br />the behalf of the City. <br />The City Administrator presented a proposed lighting plan for the Little <br />Canada Road project, and asked the Council for a determination on the <br />amount of spacing for the street lights. After reviewing the information <br />and the style of street lights, it was the consensus of the Council that the <br />lights should be placed on one side of the street and spaced 150 feet apart. <br />The City Administrator reported that he would discuss this direction with <br />Michael Schroeder to ensure that the lighting would work as part of the <br />streetscape plan. <br />The Public Works Director asked the Council for direction as to whether <br />the streetlights should or should not have banner arms and outlets. It was <br />the consensus of the Council that neither of these features was necessary. <br />Carol Ebert, Colliers Towle, appeared before the Council to discuss the <br />Rice Street /Little Canada Road redevelopment site. She reported that <br />there has been some interest in the property and that she is continuing her <br />efforts in marketing it.
