4/28/03
Dear Mr. Hansen,
I would like to thank you and the City of Little Canada for taking time to consider TimeOut
Massage Therapy for a massage therapy business license. I look forward to cooperating with
you and the city in every way and look forward to providing excellent and professional massage
therapy to the residents of Little Canada and the surrounding community.
Theresa and I were married in 1997 and have lived in our house on the east side of St. Paul for 3
years. We have a beautiful daughter named Emma. She will be 2 years old in August. Theresa
is active at church, singing in the choir and attending a mothers group Bible Study. We are
members at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Roseville.. We like to go camping and hiking
together during the summer and fall. We both participate in curling in the winter and I play
softball with our church team and also with some high - school friends in a city league.
I grew up in Roseville and attended King of Kings Lutheran Grade School and then went to
Concordia Academy Lutheran High - School. As I was growing up I played many sports, but I
excelled in both baseball and curling. I started out in the North Star Little League where our
team tied for the league championship when I was 11 and then went on to beat the team, that we
tied with, for the Championship in the Brooklyn Center Tournament. When I was 13 I started to
play in the North Star Babe Ruth program and was selected to play on the All -Star team. We
were very successful for 3 years in a row. My team and I, at the ages of 13 and 15, were MN
State and Midwest Regional Champions and continued on to the Babe Ruth World Series. I was
selected MVP for one of the World Series games when I was 15. When I was 16, I played for
the Roseville VFW and we qualified for the AAU Nationals. During the winter months I
competed in curling. My Junior Men's Curling team won the MN State Championships 3 years
in row (1990,1991,1992), and U.S. Nationals in 1991 and 1992. In 1991 we won the Bronze
Medal at the World Curling Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. We also qualified for
Olympic Trials that year. Back to baseball. I started on the Varsity Baseball Team my
Freshman year at Concordia and was MVP of the Tri- Valley Conference my Senior year. I also
played for the Rosetown Legion Team when I was 17.
When I graduated high - school I enrolled at Northern Lights School of Massage Therapy in
Minneapolis. After I completed my 600 hour course, studying massage theory and principles,
anatomy, physiology, pathology, business management and communications, I started working
for Sister Rosalind's Professional Massage Center in 1997. While working there I was able to
put my training to good use. I learned how to act in a professional setting and provided quality
massage therapy to a very diverse clientele. I learned to do chair massage, going into different
settings, including, small offices, large corporations, picnics for community events and at
professional sports venues. I then went on to start my own business, TimeOut Massage Therapy
in 1998. First, I worked with Drassal Chiropractic, in Shoreview from 1998 -2000. While
working there I received referrals from doctors and chiropractors to provide professional
massage therapy. Most of the work that I did, dealt with sports, auto, and work injuries. I would
use specific techniques to reduce pain and enhance the healing process. I had some clients,
