Fahey
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Matt Anderson
Rick Montour
Bill Biesener
ADA/IINISTTiAI'OR
Joel R. Hanson
Background:
At the March 12, 2003 City Council Workshop, the relocation of some of the street lights from
Little Canada Road to Market Place Drive was discussed. The Council requested that the
streetlights along the south side of Little Canada Road from Rice Street to Market Place Drive be
turned off to enable them to evaluate the lighting in this area. The Council also requested
pertinent cost data for different streetlight relocation options be provided.
Streetlight turn off
The 16 streetlights on the south side of Little Canada Road between Rice Street and Market
Place Drive were turned off on Tuesday March 18, 2003 for your review. Again, please let me
know if and when they can be turned back on.
Cost Estimates
To help determine which streetlights to relocate from along Little Canada Road to Market Place
Drive, Xcel Energy develop the following cost estimates:
1) New streetlight fixture, pole and base cost $3,800 each. Installation is extra.
2) Remove 16 streetlights from south side of Little Canada Road between Rice Street and
Marketplace Drive (fixture, pole, screw -in anchor base, cut conduit at base, pull wire out
of conduit, fill hole, tamp and seed) $14,000 or $875 each.
3) Remove every other streetlight on both sides of Little Canada Road between Rice Street
and Market Place Drive. This includes removal of fixture, pole, and screw -in anchor
base, splice conduits and pull new wire between poles, fill hole left by base and tamp dirt
and seed. Note that hole will be larger on the south side of road since they have to cut
and splice the conduit. In addition, a 4' x 8' section of pavers would have to be removed
and replace on the north side of road to facilitate base removal and conduit splicing.
H; \GregS \Streets \ Lights \Street Light Report.doc
