however, we would be able to get better pricing due to the larger volume of signs to be installed,
thus the cost per sign location should go down below the other plans. The cost of this plan can
be reduced further, by using some of our existing brackets (based on round post design). It is
assumed that the County Road street name signs would not have a logo on them. Logos could be
added to the County Road street name signs for about $500 additional. Finally, this plan
provides the most city awareness and continuity though out the city.
Boarder, County, & Main through Streets
As shown on the attached map, this plan has 102 known street name sign locations in the City of
Little Canada. This plan includes 9 private street sign locations where a private street abuts a
public street as well as 1 sign location at First Bank Drive /Rice Street that we will be soon
deleting. The estimated cost to install a 9" high street name sign with logo is approximately
$13,675. This plan promotes city awareness along highly traveled streets. However, it is
assumed that the County Road street name signs would not have a logo on them. Logos could be
added to the County Road street name signs for about $500 additional. In addition, the cost of
this plan could be reduced further depending on which main streets the Council would wish to
sign.
Boarder Streets & County Roads
This plan has only 56 know street name sign locations as shown on the attached map. The
estimated cost to install 9" high street name signs with logo at these locations is approximately
$7,335. This plan identifies city awareness on the most heavily traveled streets in the City of
Little Canada. Again, only Little Canada streets would have a logo on the street name sign. For
about $500 additional, we could add a logo to the County Road street name signs.
Boarder Streets
This plan would result in only 32 know street name sign locations. However, this number could
change if the Council determines that they do not wish to install street names at traffic light
intersections in addition to those already installed on the traffic light support arm. The estimated
cost to install street name signs at all 32 locations is approximately $4,200. The advantage of
this plan is that we are identifying our city limits and our city streets.
Recommendation
The overall goal is to provide easy to read street signs through out the entire City of Little
Canada. The most economical way to accomplish this goal (i.e. obtain the best price for each
sign location) is to resign the entire city at one time. Therefore, staff is recommending that
Council resign the entire city now based on the following:
1) Determine if the Council wishes to install street name signs with a city logo on them.
2) Determine the type of logo, either screened or sticker.
3) Determine if both county and city streets name signs are to have a logo on them.
4) Determine type of street name sign configuration to be used, round post or square post
design,
5) Determine which streets are not to have new street name signs installed,
II: \OregS \ Signs \Street Name Signs.doc
3
