LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road / Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
Telephone: (651) 766 -4029 / Fax: (651) 766 -4048
JIM MORELAN, Director
(651) 766 -4045
DON BOWMAN, Program Coordinator
(651) 766 -4041
DEREK ANDERSON, Program Coordinator
(651) 766 -4042
GREG HOAG, Parkkeeper
(651) 766 -4056
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and members of the City Council
FROM: Jim MoreIan, Parks and Recreation Director
DATE: February 21, 2003
RE: Trail Grant Application
We are preparing a grant proposal to the State of MN DNR for local trail connections that
have previously been identified by the Parks & Recreation Commission and City
Council. The cover letter for the application is attached and identifies the two segments
of trail that we are requesting the funds for. The total project is estimated to cost
$200,000.00. The city would be required to match one half of that amount or
$100,000.00 in 2004.
We have $50,000.00 in the 2004 capital improvement budget for trails and $812,500.00
in the 2005 budget. I believe if we were successful with the grant, we could allocate
monies from the park land acquisition fund (presently $297,000.00) to meet our match if
necessary.
One of the requirements for the grant is to have the City Council adopt a resolution
stating its support of the project and its commitment of $100,000.00 in funds to match the
grant amount if it is awarded to us. I would recommend the passing of such a resolution
by the Council at your February 26 meeting.
