Recommendation
Based on the above costs, the increase in cost to replace street name signs over a period of years is not
dramatically higher to warrant doing them all in one year. In addition, based on proposed impacts to
our budget, staff is recommending that Council resign the entire city with 9 inch signs with a city
logo as the sign needs replacing. This could be handled within our existing street sign budget
and will take about 7 years to accomplish.
Staff needs direction from the Council on the following:
1) Determine if the Council wishes to install street name signs with a city logo on them.
2) Determine the type of red and black on white background logo, either screened or sticker.
(the sticker is the cheapest).
3) Determine if both county and city streets name signs are to have a logo on them.
4) Determine type of street name sign configuration to be used, round post or square post
design. (the single face design like Vadnais is cheapest, however, we will be able to use more
of our existing brackets and post with the double face system).
5) Determine which streets are not to have new street name signs installed.
6) Direct staff to prepare specifications and request proposals to for the installation of street
name signs as defined above.
H: \GregS \Signs \Revised sign pricesdoc
