Designing for Accessibility
Brand Style Guide
City of Little Canada 11

Designing with accessibility in mind ensures that the materials you create are usable by all, including
those with low vision. You should make color choices that exhibit high color contrast, especially
between text and background elements.
High-contrast designs are easily seen and deciphered. Low-contrast designs can look muddy and be
difficult to read.
Contrast is measurable. You can check the color contrast of your text and background using a free
tool like the Colour Contrast Analyser, developed by The Paciello Group. It provides a Pass/Fail rating
against the latest WCAG guideline, a standard for the creation of all electronic materials, including web-
sites and documents.
Low color contrast
High color contrast
abc
2.53
abc
6.15
abc
4.95
abc abc abc
4.914.91 4.9010.30
abc
abc
3.91
abc
2.09
abc
4.07
abc
4.29
abc
1.24
X
