Ramsey - Washington Metro
November 15, 2002
Joel Hanson
City of Little Canada
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Dear Mr. Hanson,
District
1902 East County Road 8
Maplewood, MN 55109
(651)704-2089
fax: (651)704 -2092
email: office @rvvmwd.org
This letter is a request for City of Little Canada support for WaterFest 2003. We are proposing
that each City participate at the $500 level. By financially sponsoring WaterFest 2003 and
sending key city staff and community leaders to observe or assist, your City will be able to claim
an accomplishment under the NPDES Phase II Permit education requirements. Make sure you
note that in your Permit implementation plan
This year WaterFest will be held at Lake Phalen for the second year in a row. We realize that it
may be too far away to capture the interest of many of your residents, but we invite you to
consider identifying key City staff and community leaders, including teachers, environmental
commissioners and Chamber of Commerce members, to encourage attending WaterFest. The
purpose of their attendance would be to see how the event and perhaps gain some ideas for
enhancing existing community environmental events.
Schools, Lions Clubs, businesses and environmental educators from across the metro area have
eagerly attended WaterFest in past years because of the large public audience attending. We are
well over 1000 in attendance for the 5 -hour event, some estimates for 2002 reached 1200
including volunteers and workers.
As other cities and watershed districts have asked for advice on producing such an event, my best
advice has been to attend at least once and help out before or during one WaterFest. Hands -on
experience is far better than advice. Besides, every city has unique physical and human resources
on which to draw, unique interests, and unique budgets.
Enclosed please find a brochure on WaterFest 2002. I will attach to an email a Power Point Slide
Show on WaterFest 2003, to assist you in your presentation to others helping decide about
WaterFest support.
Thank you for considering support of WaterFest 2003.
Sincerel
Louise Watson
District Planning and Education Coordinator
2
