ce4, yda ceak
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
Email: cityhall @ci.little- canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, Deputy Clerk
DATE: April 5, 2001
RE: K & J Catering — Catering Permit
Annual CUP License Fee
MAYOR
'Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Matt Anderson
Rick Montour
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
As you may recall, in November the Council approved a Conditional Use Permit
allowing K & J Catering to operate a rental /banquet hall at the 433 Little Canada Road
(Little Canada Rental Hall). You will also recall that K & J Catering has an on -sale
liquor license issued by the City of North St. Paul as well as a Caterer's Permit issued by
the State. The combination of these two licenses would allow K & J Catering to sell
liquor as part of their rental operation. (Minutes of November 8, 2000 Council meeting
are attached.)
In order to provide for some consistent treatment of K & J Catering and the City's on -sale
liquor establishments, the Council established an annual CUP fee for K & J Catering of
$250. The Council also required a review of this fee prior to renewal of 2001 /2002 liquor
licenses to determine if the fee is adequate based on the amount of business that is being
generated at the rental hall.
K & J Catering has informed me that to date they have not had any rental events at the
Little Canada Rental Hall. Their first scheduled rental is May 5th, and they have a few
other rentals scheduled during the year 2001. Therefore, given the limited rental events
that K & J Catering anticipates for 2001 and the fact that they are still trying to get this
business up and running, staff recommends that the annual CUP fee for K & J Catering
remain at $250 for the license year July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002.
Page 5
