Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Matt Anderson
Rid; Montour
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
There is a bill being considered by the Legislature that would require all elected City,
County, and School District officials to stand for election in the odd - numbered year. As
you are aware, Little Canada's elected officials currently stand for election in the even -
numbered year.
If this legislation passes, the result would be an election each year in the City (Federal
and State offices in the even - numbered year and City, County, and School District offices
in the odd - numbered year). Election costs to the City in 1998 were 54,804 and in 2000
were 55,942, exclusive of City staff time. The City currently has no election costs in the
odd - numbered year. If odd - numbered year elections are mandated, similar expenses
would have to be budgeted for during those years.
I would like to ask the Council's position on this issue. If the Council does not support
odd -year elections for cities, staff would notify our Legislators of this position.
Page 6
