Rice Street Report
Fire issues and other matters
November, 2001
2940 Rice Street
All American Recreation
The building was built in about 1971 and leased to bell telephone for an electronics test facility.
Construction of the radio tower on the property was approved by the City Council in December
of 1974. The record implies that Bell owned the building then. Also, in 1974, Bell started
"phase II" construction, a 40 stall garage that later became 2942 Rice Street. Bell vacated 2940
and 2942 in April of 1985.
Records indicate that in 1993 the owner was TCF and the property was leased to the Bingo Hall.
In 1996 the owner was Champion Auto (Griffin Co.$)
In 1997 it was acquired by All American Recreation.
In the past three years there has been one complaint of trash and debris in the rear area of the
building. All American responded to clean-up requests.
2942 Rice Street
Express Image
The building was put up in 1974 by Bell Telephone. Bell vacated in 1985. It appears that the
building was owned by Tom Short in 1987. Graebel Moving operated from the building in 1986
through 1989. B &E Packaging was in the building in 1987 and 1989. Express Image bought the
building in 1995.
The only complaint on file in the past three years was for illegal storing of automobiles. This
was addressed by the CEO of Express Image, Roger Sarenpa, in a timely manner.
2946 Rice Street
Roger Sarenpa
See 2942, Express Image. This property has a long storage shed along the north side. It
appears that this shed was built when the Antler Company owned this area. It is a continuation
of a shed located on McDonald Battery property. The shed is enclosed by a chain link fence, and
according to the signage it is rented out as mini - storage. We have no complaints on file for this
property.
Page 38
