Hanson Email: cityhall @ci.little- canada.mn.us MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator DATE: October 19, 2001 RE: Fire Department Roof Inspection The roof at the new fire station has experienced leaking problems the last few years. The warranty on this roof is about to expire. We have been dealing with Genflex (the company providing the warranty) in an attempt to resolve these problems before the warranty expires. To date, we have not achieved the desired results. Therefore, the City Attorney has been involved in order to protect our position. A letter was sent to Genflex back in early September asking for their proposed solution to this problem. We informed them that if we did not hear from them by September 17th, the City Attorney would be directed to commence legal action. A few days after that date they contact us and indicated a willingness to do a "flood test" of the current roof to determine where the leaks are originating. Based on this test, they would then address the necessary corrections. Pat Sweeney feels we should obtain an independent evaluation. This would give us an objective opinion as to what needs to be done as well as serve as key evidentiary material should legal proceedings be necessary. I informed the Genflex representative of our desire to obtain an independent inspection and asked for his comments. He has not responded to that call. Attached are three quotations for independent inspection services. I would recommend we contract with Inspec, Inc. for inspection services at a cost of $450,00. cc: Little Canada Fire Department Page 37
