Hanson <br />Email: cityhall @ci.little- canada.mn.us <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council <br />FROM: Kathy Glanzer, Deputy Clerk <br />DATE: September 7, 2001 <br />RE: Truth In Taxation Rearing <br />Due to the late enactment of the Omnibus Tax Bill and the massive changes in the <br />property tax system, the Legislature has waived the requirement that Truth In Taxation <br />hearings be held in 2001 for taxes payable in 2002. However, these hearings will once <br />again be required for taxes payable in 2003 and subsequent years. <br />From a consistency standpoint, staff is recommending that the City conduct a Truth In <br />Taxation hearing in 2001 for the 2002 Budget. However, rather than publishing the <br />hearing utilizing the format that we have been required to use in the past, we would use <br />our standard format for public hearing notices. This would result in a cost savings of <br />approximately $250.00. <br />In the past the City has held its Truth In Taxation hearing the first week December. <br />Staff's recommendation would be that the hearing be held on Wednesday, December 5, <br />2001 at 7:00 p.m. Given the uncertainty with property taxes this year and should any <br />issues be raised by the general public, this will give the Council and staff an opportunity <br />to respond to those issues prior to adoption of the final budget at our regular Council <br />meeting in December. <br />Page 68 <br />
