Hanson <br />WHEREAS, The first Little Canada Canadian Days observance was held on August 12, 13, and 14, <br />1977; and <br />WHEREAS, The Little Canada Canadian Days Celebration has its roots in the 4 °i of July Celebration of <br />1975 and the 1976 Bi- Centennial Celebration in Little Canada: and <br />WHEREAS, The Canadian Days Committee began to focus on Little Canada's Canadian heritage when <br />Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada and Little Canada, Minnesota were proclaimed as Sister Cities on June 30, <br />1978 by Thunder Bay Mayor Walter M. Assef; and <br />WHEREAS, The Canadian Days Celebration is a vehicle which cements the bonds of friendship with our <br />Canadian sister city, the City of Thunder Bay, Ontario; and <br />WHEREAS, The mission of the Little Canada Canadian Days Committee is to: <br />• Provide the community of Little Canada, Minnesota with a summer festival; <br />♦ Promote stronger ties of friendship and understanding between the residents of the City of Little <br />Canada, Minnesota and Thunder Bay, Ontario; <br />• Make charitable contributions to youth - oriented activities and organizations of the City of Little <br />Canada, Minnesota: and <br />WHEREAS', The Canadian Days Committee is made up of civic - minded volunteers working to raise <br />funding for the celebration as well as youth activities in the City through various fund - raising efforts, <br />business contributions, City support, and volunteer labor: and <br />WHEREAS, The Canadian Days Celebration has become the vehicle which brings out the best in <br />volunteer participation and unifies our City volunteer organizations in a common celebratory effort. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, /3E IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of the City of Little Canada <br />recognize and thank the Little Canada Canadian Days Committee for 25 years of superlative and <br />dedicated volunteer service on behalf of the residents of the City. <br />Adopted this 4Ih day of August, 2001. <br />Attes <br />Joel R.
