515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538
Email: cityhall @ci.little- canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Greg Schroeder, Public Works Director
DATE: December 5, 2000
RE: Verification of HVAC Work Cost Estimate
Public Works Garage
MAYOR
Michael 1. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
As requested, Oertel Architects, obtained cost estimates from three contractors to verify his
estimated cost for improving the air quality at the existing Public Works Garage.
As his attached memo indicates, he received estimates from Apollo Heating, Dependable
Heating, and Horowitz Mechanical. As usual, each contractor interpreted the scope a little
differently and did not include everything. As a result, Mr. Oertel with the assistance of the
contractors, adjusted their estimates to include all of the work, resulting in a cost estimate range
between $56,000 and S70,000. His original estimate was S62,000 for upgrading the HVAC
system.
Based on the above, it can be concluded that Mr. Oertel's cost estimates presented in his October
25, 2000 report are very reasonable and representative for the general planning decision making
level of design that we are at. Therefore, it can also be concluded as stated in Mr. Oertel's
report, the estimated cost to upgrade the existing Public Works Garage to meet code (with no
expansion) is approximately $150,000.
I hope the above information addresses your questions on Mr. Oertel's cost estimates. If not
please provide appropriate direction so that I can obtain the information you need.
'age 108
