SECTION E. Planning Coordination with Other Suppliers and Public Agencies
Inter - Community Sharing
Inter- system connections are discussed in PART ILC.
Joint Pursuit of Alternative Sources and Protection of Existing Sources
The City of Little Canada currently has a long -term contract for the purchase of
treated water with the City of St. Paui which expires on February 10, 2006. The
City of Little Canada supports efforts by St. Paui to protect their water sources.
However, spills can occur many mile upstream of' the St. Paul raw water intake,
therefore, protection of this water supply source, the Mississippi River, is not
feasible. Because of this, the City of Little Canada may consider a permanent
inter - system connection with the City of Vadnais Heights. This would provide an
alternate source of water for our system.
SECTION F. Problems and Potential Solutions
The elements contained in PART I.D fulfill the requirements of this section.
SECTION G. Wellhead Protection Program
The City of Little Canada does not use groundwater wells as their source for potable
water. The City of Little Canada purchases all of its potable water from the St. Paul
Water Utility. Therefore, a wellhead protection program is not required. The City of
Little Canada is willing to cooperate with efforts to protect wells of surrounding
communities.
SECTION H. Implementation Program
Official Controls
The City of Little Canada currently does not have any nor do they plan on
establishing any ordinances or regulations to control short- teeur water use.
Potential measures for achieving long -term conservation, which primarily involve
improving water use efficiencies, are presented in PART III.
Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
Water rates, connection fees, bonds, and special assessments fund the City of
Little Canada Water Budget and Capital Improvement Program. The City of
Little Canada's Water Budget and 5 -Year Capital Improvement Plan that is
included in the 2000 budget is included in Appendix C.
Page 134
